Katrien Van Hooydonk

Privileged to observe how a young woman becomes a driving force for a community by gaining knowledge, taking responsibility and “living by example”, I truly believe that empowerment can be a real change maker. As a young engineer in Ecuador, I performed drinking water programs in which the empowerment of those young women remains one of mine most beautiful professional achievements. As a mother of 3 pearls and bioengineer fascinated by water, I witnessed that empowerment, especially of women and young people, can results in a real societal change. Everyone needs a personal support, a "yes, you can!" in the bumpy course of life.

Within the NGO sector I was operational in the (muddy) field, legal representative, advisor in thematic and geographic areas, a bridgebuilder between partners, lobbying and coordinating programs. I sincerely hope that my knowledge and experience will be an effective support to both the operational team and the board KIYO.

Member of the Board since 2020.
